Magical Unicorn Birthday Bash

I always let me daughter pick her birthday party theme. For her 7th birthday, she chose the very popular unicorn party theme. I was thrilled because there are endless options out there for unicorn party supplies. I found the unicorn theme everywhere from affordable places like The Dollar General to more pricey options at online boutiques and everywhere in between. Ultimately, Party City supplies won out over the others and their price range fell somewhere in the middle.

My favorite part of the process is designing the invitation, of course! You can get this unicorn invitation customized in my etsy shop for any age or colors you need!

I also tackled the huge task of making the cake. This cake...ya'll....was a labor of love. I was sooooo happy with how it turned out! I used a regular cake mix for the layers and my buttercream recipe but altered it to add shortening, so that it would be more heat stable. I found the cutest unicorn topper on amazon.

Unfortunately, those beautiful 1M multicolored swirls did not make it to the actual party because we had an unseasonably hot day. I took the cake out of the fridge too early and it MELTED. Adding shortening to my buttercream DID NOT make it more heat stable, just a quick tip! I learned from a local bakery to always keep buttercream cakes in the fridge and add simple syrup to the cake layers so they don't dry out while in the fridge. From now on, I am just going to use THIS shortening based frosting because it won't melt nor does it have to be kept in the fridge.

I made these adorable unicorn horn favors by using these cone bags & beautiful pink ties and my custom tag! I filled the cone bags with mini marshmallow, gold wrapped chocolates, pink sixlets and candy bracelets from Party City.

My mother made these amazing royal icing sugar cookies with multi-colored manes and metallic gold details!

I found these cute toppers at Walmart and the unicorn candles at party city,

I found the cutest headbands and popcorn boxes on amazon. Everything else I got from Party City.
